Visible innovation does not establish the continuity of living performance traditions. This article examines how selective change relates to continuing practice in Janger Banyuwangi, Indonesia. A critical integrative review synthesizes published Janger research and institutional documentation, drawing on heritage and organizational resilience scholarship to interpret relationships between change and continuity. The synthesis identifies four analytical conditions: cultural legitimacy, learning opportunities, organizational and material support, and practitioner agency. Accounts document negotiated repertoire, repeated training, and operational adjustments, while sustained competence, shared authority, and continuity across generations remain insufficiently demonstrated. Causal effects on cultural continuity remain untested. The framework distinguishes enabling conditions from continuity outcomes, supporting comparative research and evaluations that assess learning and cultural recognition alongside continued activity and organizational persistence
