Abstract

Christian education in multicultural societies faces increasing challenges in fostering theological integrity while promoting intercultural understanding, social cohesion, and constructive engagement with religious diversity. Indonesia, as one of the world's most religiously and culturally diverse nations, provides a significant context for examining how Christian education can remain faithful to biblical teachings while responding effectively to pluralistic realities. This article explores the concept of contextual Christian education within Indonesian multicultural society by integrating biblical principles, educational theories, and contemporary perspectives on contextual theology. Employing a qualitative literature-based approach, this study synthesizes scholarly literature, government educational policies, and theological discussions to examine the characteristics, challenges, and educational implications of contextual Christian education. The findings indicate that contextual Christian education should move beyond doctrinal transmission toward holistic spiritual formation, intercultural competence, critical theological reflection, and active participation in peacebuilding. Contextualization does not require compromising biblical truth; rather, it enables Christian educators to communicate the gospel meaningfully within diverse social and cultural settings. Furthermore, Indonesian multiculturalism offers unique opportunities for Christian educational institutions to cultivate students who demonstrate strong Christian identity alongside respect, empathy, and collaborative engagement with people from different religious and cultural backgrounds
